Poem Beasts

The Poligrin (Politician)

Unmentionable

Easily the most adaptable of all beasts
it loans itself at low interest
to this poem and other memorials.
Its expedient mating call seduces moral majorities.
Morally cleansed, Poligrin’s holes smell power.
Odorous pomp excites crowds
of flimsy cardboard slogans.
Saying docilely follow this Poligrin.
Which hunts the biggest game.
The winning one.

After winning it runs wild for one hundred days.
But Poligrins may be easily domesticated.
And finally plasticized.
       Some are prone to rot.
These are preserved in congressional jam jars.
Poligrins being virtually bomb-proof
usually pass on
       word by word
       dollar by dollar
       in their memoirs.
