Poem Beasts

The Plebeast (Plebeian)

The working stiff as flexible

Tries to out-drive Patbeast.
More power to it.
Add a Rolls-Royce.

Pleb’s diet is junk food
       and Patbeasts.
And the ‘higher standard of living.’
       Standard is not living.

Patbeasts not to worry, play
with genius or mundane and wait
for a fresh apple to fall on their heads.
Free accidents from dreams.
Plebeasts like their accidents explosive.
Did not all dreams originate with the original ‘accident?’
Patbeast and Plebeast both intertwined
in an enduring vine
       renewing leaves a few gorgeous flowers.
And new seeds to spin off to the winds.

Poem Beasts

The Patbeast (Patrician)

Upper class with our witout class

The divine wrong of Patbeast is entitlement
to be eccentric and
                to afford it.
Patbeasts are the chosen few.
Who chooses is a question better left open.
They are, in fact, too few. Too pat.
                Possibly all through.
Perhaps due to a distaste for the common
this animal sets trends so exclusive
                everybody finds them.

Plebeasts are more fortunate.
They have only to fall back on their
vastly explosive numbers.
Untutored, these numbers are suffocating Patbeasts.
                Also Plebeasts.
Who en masse march for more and more.

Wistful poets hope for a Mozartian return
to sculptured formal gardens
full of bright morning expectations.
And dignity of gratuitous creation
giving all good to Plebeasts,
Patbeasts who do not charge for spirit.
