Poem Beasts

The Procrator (Procrastinator)

Not for Godot

An anxious beast that waits and waits…
And finally, at the first opportunity,
keeps waiting.
Its continuing delays sometimes provoke
magical accidents.
Gertrude Stein, always more lazy
than her fast talk beasts says,
“It takes a genius to do nothing.”
It also takes money.
And a certain altitude of attitude.
Some of the more middle beasts call Procator slothful.
They forget that sloth is planning ahead.
Ahead of the game?
Yes, the game is safely behind it.
Merely planning how to keep it there.

Sometimes this lax beast slows its speed to a limp.
So unawares of anything faster
dies to death slowly…
wondering what happened
because what did?
